The Points of Excellence award for March goes to Dexter Brookhart of the Department of Public Safety.
Dexter is the primary instructor for Public Safety’s “Rape Aggression Defense” program or RAD. This program is a nationally-recognized women’s self-defense class offered twice a year through the Health and Exercise Science Department as a half credit hour course. Another department member made the following comments: Dexter exhibits genuine care and concern for all his students. He constantly “goes the extra mile” to ensure that all of his students understand the material and the practical application of the things they learn in the class. Dexter develops such a great rapport with all of his students that even after they complete his class, the students still interact with him in a positive way.
Since the program became a college credit course, it has constantly had a waiting list of students wanting to take the class. I feel this is due to Dexter’s dedication to his students and genuine concern for their safety and well-being. Dexter is always willing to help out any of his students during class and outside of class. He consistently recommends and implements improvements to the program to make it even more relevant. In doing so, he also sheds a positive light on the Department of Public Safety and Truman State University as a whole.
Therefore, it is my great pleasure that the Points of Excellence Award for March be awarded to Dexter Brookhart, as he exemplifies the true spirit of service to Truman students and the Kirksville community.
