Assessment Specialist, Provost/VPAA's Office

Responsibilities:

For well over thirty years, Truman State University has used assessment to refine and improve its curriculum, campus environment, and student learning. Truman seeks an Assessment Specialist to help coordinate these efforts. The Assessment Specialist reports to the Provost and works closely with the Provost's Advisory Committee on Assessment, the Coordinator of Testing and Assessment, the Faculty Director of the Portfolio Project, and the Faculty Director of the Interview Project. The Assessment Specialist:

  • Provides leadership, coordination, expertise, support, and analysis of college-wide assessment efforts in developing good practices of data-driven, outcome based assessment of all college programs;
  • Works with and encourages faculty to effectively use assessment to increase student learning;
  • Provides environmental scanning on assessment to keep the community abreast of national trends in assessment; and
  • Provides oversight and guidance for continuous improvement plans and 5 year program reviews to ensure that they help us understand student learning.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in educational research, research and evaluation, or related field OR demonstrated record of working with faculty on assessment projects;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to produce and present complex data in a clear and concise manner;
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of technology including spreadsheets, relational databases, and statistical software applications; and
  • Ability to work with diverse constituencies including faculty, administrators, staff, and students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D;
  • Knowledge of assessment theory and practices including outcome-based assessment;
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods;
  • Experience in higher education;
  • College or university teaching experience; and
  • Experience in using results of assessment to promote change.
