Director of Grants, Grant's Office

Responsibilities:

Working with the Grants and Compliance Specialist, the Director of Grants will expand external support for Truman. The position is a full-time administrative position reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The Director of Grants:

  • Encourages, develops, and supports the pursuit of external funding to advance individual, departmental, and collaborative projects from all campus constituencies;
  • Researches and identifies possible funding agencies (foundations, federal, state and local agencies, corporations, etc.);
  • Assists faculty and staff with the review and interpretation of guidelines for specific grant programs;
  • Assists in developing budgets for submissions, reviewing proposals, training new investigators in grant administration;
  • Provides editorial assistance to craft well-written and persuasive proposals;
  • Works with the Provost and the Strategic Planning Committee to set priorities for securing external funding;
  • Oversees the budget for the Office of Grants; and
  • Supervises the Grants and Compliance Specialist.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
    OR Bachelor's degree and 10 years of demonstrated experience securing federal, state, or corporate grants;
  • A proven record of obtaining funding from federal, state, or private sources;
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and private funding opportunities, requirements and regulations including the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, the Department of Education, National Endowments for the Humanities and Arts, and others;
  • Excellent professional comportment and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, staff, and faculty;
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; and
  • Demonstrated supervisory ability and budget management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. preferred
  • Experience as the lead administrator of a higher education grants office
  • Proven ability to work effectively with faculty in a variety of disciplines across the University
