The Financial Aid Counselor reports to the Director of Financial Aid and is
primarily responsible for providing financial aid counseling in person, on the
phone, and via e-mail. A team-oriented approach and commitment to excellence in
customer service is essential. The counselor must have a strong working
knowledge of all financial aid programs (federal, state, and institutional) and
a comprehensive understanding of the financial aid process (packaging, loan
processing, verification, scholarship programs, etc.). This position will
include financial aid processing duties such as providing Stafford Loan exit
counseling, verifications, administering state aid programs, and/or other duties
as assigned.
The Financial Aid Counselor will be required to learn and understand complex
federal and state financial aid regulations; have a student oriented focus;
positive attitude, excellent telephone, written and verbal communication skills;
the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced enrollment management
environment and excellent computer skills
Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree; a minimum of 1 to 2
years of financial aid or finance-related experience; exceptional communication
(written and oral), interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills;
experience working effectively as part of a team. A serious commitment to
providing the very best customer service to our students and families is
mandatory.
Preferred qualifications include database experience (e.g. Banner) and the
ability to effectively use Microsoft Office Suite.
