This position reports to the Controller and directs overall operations of Purchasing for acquiring materials, services, supplies, equipment and small construction projects; provides leadership and direction to ensure adherence to Purchasing policies and procedures; monitors processing benchmarks to improve customer service. The Purchasing Agent represents the University in negotiations and awarding contracts while ensuring a customer-centered approach is being used to provide services. This position supervises and delegates responsibility to a Buyer and part-time Purchasing Clerk.
Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent
combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and
abilities can be acquired; a minimum of two years of purchasing experience;
excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and
organizational skills; the ability to multi-task, handle multiple projects and
deadlines and prioritize work; strong analytical skills; must have the ability
to work as a member of customer-service oriented team and the ability to
establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the campus,
contractors, suppliers and the general public; and previous professional
supervisory experience.
Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in Business; a minimum of
three years of purchasing experience in a government or public education
setting; certification as a Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) or
Certified Public Purchasing Officer (CPPO) or Certified Purchasing Manager
(CPM); and knowledge of overall purchasing and procurement principles, policies,
procedures and practices.
