University Driver, Public Safety

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include the safe operation of state fleet vehicles, including vans and minibuses engaged in University business; trip coordination including confirmation that travel itineraries meet Public Safety guidelines and are accurate before departure, vehicle maintenance and cleaning; vehicle condition inspections; a knowledge of vehicle mechanics and maintenance, be able to diagnose minor mechanical problems in several types of vehicles; provide assistance in scheduling fleet vehicle travel arrangement; the person in this position must act in a professional, polite, respectful, and courteous manner; must report accidents, incidents of criminal activity, or fines resulting from violations of traffic laws; must know and obey traffic laws; and keep up to date on the rules and regulations of the U.S. Department of Transportation and Interstate Commerce Commission. This position will involve weekend and overnight travel and travel may be in or out of state.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED; must possess and maintain a valid Class C Missouri Commercial Driver’s License with passenger endorsement OR must have the ability to acquire the passenger endorsement; good driving record; previous experience operating similar vehicles, including metropolitan driving; office and clerical experience including knowledge of computers and basic office software applications; strong interpersonal and customer service skills; and the ability to function without direct supervision.

Final candidates will be required to satisfactorily pass a background check and tests. Must be medically qualified and pass U.S. Department of Transportation physical and drug testing. Includes random testing.
