“Brenda Embree is the secretary in the HES Department. Brenda is the purple bleeder in our department. Students need her to provide support for their academic needs, to supervise their work, and to provide them snacks (which she does without compensation). Faculty rely on her to navigate the processes necessary to accomplish their teaching, research, and service. These descriptions may make her sound ordinary. She is not. Brenda goes beyond doing her job well. She goes beyond her direct responsibilities, allowing the lives of students and faculty to run more smoothly. Whether it is providing snacks on student appreciation day, directing students to the correct room, or staying late to help a faculty member, Brenda is committed to making our environment a positive one. She does her job and more out of a love for Truman and her colleagues; she is dedicated to making Truman a better place.”
